Greyhounds

that died

without ever knowing the love and comfort of a home.

The Children of Retired Racers

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Lita - May 09,1988 to August 05, 2002

She shared her earthly life,

alpha wisdom and unconditional

love with me.

She guided me into a life of

rescuing and loving many greyhounds.

Thank you, Number One.

I'll see you soon.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Serengeti Sasha

A.K.A.: Sasha-Bear

03-1995 to 02-11-05

Sasha was a survivor in the utmost sense of the word.

She survived the track, a mountain lion attack,

the bacterial infections that followed and

losing the only home she knew after 2 years.

Coming back to Retired Racers was coming back home for her.

She reluctantly took the position of #1 when Lita passed

and did a real good job despite her objections.

She went on to do a Toyota commercial

in the footsteps of her pack-sister, Star.

She slept with me, wept with me and loved with me.

Can't wait to see her at the Bridge...

healthy again.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Spruce

A.K.A.: Pookie

August 9,1992 to July 30,2005

A beautiful fawn girl that came to Retired Racers at age 2.

She was adopted out for 30 days and returned to us

because she had fleas.

How lucky for us.

Larry insisted we keep her and Spruce loved him for that.

She was truly a daddy's girl.

Her angelic face eagerly anticipating treats and her "treat talk"

will be sorely missed.

She now runs with her original pack of 7 at the Bridge-

her angelic face

eagerly anticipating

the day we will join her.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

STAR

A.K.A.: Ms. Hollywood

12-1990 to 04-30-04

Our little Ms. Hollywood, forever immortalized on film as

the Greyhound Busline Spokeshound.

She never went a day without practicing her lines...

for treats... and always to make us laugh.

She had a zest for life, laughter and love.

She was loyal, loving and beautiful.

Our little Star, forever loved,

forever immortalized in our hearts.

Stay near and I'll see you on the other side.

Drive

07/90 - 08/07/04

A.K.A.: The Hanky MAn

Drive has been given several names to

fit his personality through the years:

"Gent" for his impeccable manners,

"D" for his love of running no matter

how old he was, "The Hanky Man" because his way

of greeting you was to rub his face on you for

as long as you'd let him.

His Vet aptly called him "one tough dog"

as Drive never complained no matter what

physical obstacle he endured.

Drive was a quiet strenth in our home that

will be immensely missed.

He surely has a special place at the

Bridge with his packmates.

See you there, Drive-Man.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Shotty

03/94 - 07/21/06

A.K.A.: Shotgun

Shotty was a quiet energy in our pack.

He loved life and enjoyed every day his Creator gave him.

Shotty never asked for anything more than what he had

and loved his family and pack members for no other reason

than they were in his circle of love.

Well known as Cowboy Shotty because of a greyt picture his

Uncle Steve took of him in a cowboy hat.

Two things I will miss about my Shotty-man:

(1)He used to quietly lay on his dog bed and stare at me

with a look that only a greyhound can give you when they love you.

And (2) there was his "dance".

When I would come back home after any amount of time,

Shotty would quietly greet me with his front legs

prancing in excitement. I called it the "Shotty Dance".

I know Shotty is quietly waiting at the Bridge for my arrival,

Practicing his dance for me. See you then Shotty Man

June 1991 to November 20, 2003

If Chloe could write a book about her life adventures,

it would be a best seller.

Like hitchhiking from Florida to California -

to being Star's double on the Hollywood set of the

Greyhound Busline Commercials.

She loved life,

and the thumping of her happy tail and

her silly "Face" will be sorely missed.

Meet you at the Bridge, Chlo - Bug.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Suede

12-12-1998 to 5-10-2006

To know him was to love him

A, huge beautiful boy that would have

protected me with his very life.

He was misunderstood during his first years after racing and

went through two homes before coming to his forever home with me.

He left his earthly body way too young. But we said our good-byes

before he crossed over to his Creator's Paradise to wait for me there.

I will miss his unconditional love and the way he would look at me

with those great big brown eyes as if I could walk on water.

I look forward to seeing him again

at the Bridge.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

SUNLOT

Equine Friend and Companion

July 1977 to January 26, 2005

Even though he was a horse, he earned his place

on the Memorial Page of Retired Racers.

He was there at the very beginning of Greyhound Rescue

and willingly took a backseat to my time and attention

so I could care for the greyhounds in need.

Sunlot came into my life in 1982

and we rode thousands of miles in the many years

we were blessed to be together.

He saw me through a divorce and stood quietly

while I hung on his neck to rant and cry.

Then we would hit the trails in Chatsworth

and let it all go in the wind.

May you enjoy the warmth of God's meadow

and the taste of His grasses

until we can ride again in the light.

The eyes will translate what the heart and soul are speaking

if you are patient there comes a time when you can close your own

When we first met her eyes asked, do you understand, will you love me for who I am,

will you be patient?

I did and I was.

Creator called and she asked me to be patient again.

And I was patient.

When she had tried enough she asked to go, but again please be patient.

and tried to be leader in our pack of 4.

You were funny and impish,

always butting your nose in, wanting to be first.

You loved life.

You battled an ugly disease with strength,

courage and exuberance.

You became our 3 legged wonder dog

Tree

Adams Boy

Shining black in the shining light

Inky black in the golden sun

Graceful as a Swallows flight

Muffled thud of flying feet

See the black dog come to greet

=<<>>=

Bright as starlight eyes

A smile on his face

The gift of a shoe in his mouth

Or an invitation to chase

=<<>>=

Can you say of a dog,"he was polite"?

Tree was, with people and animals

Sometimes grumpy, he needed his own space

Black curves curled up on a blue sofa

But always gentle and full of grace

=<<>>=

Tree loved walks and water,

his toys and Christmas, his joy infectious

Maybe he couldn't talk,

but he listened like no other dog

Upright, ears alert, head moving from side to side

Eager to catch each word from those he loved most

His Family, Adam,and Lisa

=<<>>=

Alas, eyes that were aflame before

Gentle now they burn no more

Gentle now and softly warm

With the fire that made them bright

Hidden, as when after a storm

Softly falls a dewy night

=<<>>=

All that he came to give, he gave

And now has gone away

We all love you Tree and until we meet again

In our hearts you will always stay.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Dash

June 1991 to January 2004

Dash's life could have only been lived by being

the survivor he was.

From track life to private clinic blood donor

to missing in the desert for 6 years.

He was miraculously discovered in a dingy dog

rescue in the middle of nowhere

and finally made it home to Retired Racers.

He found a loving home for 2 years until a major move

brought him back to us.

Here he spent the last days of his life,

running with the pack, hunting rabbits and barking

at the silly neighbor dogs.

See you at the Bridge, Dashman, WE LOVE YOU.

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Bubba

11-26-1995 - 2005

You ruled the track

with Princley Grace

and only age stopped your pace.

From coast to coast you traveled fast

and met your brother from long ago past.

Transition then was a little struggle

to learn about Love and shed the muzzle.

From finish line to a home called mine

We will remember you until the end of time.

Our Prince, Our Bubba.

See you at the Finish Line

==<<<<(::)>>>>==

Sequoia

03/94 - 06/25/06

This boy was aptly named:

a dark red fawn boy, strong and muscular,

a heart as big as a redwood.

Steadfastly loyal to his forever home,

having that special bond with his mom

that only a Greyhound can.

Sequoia opened the hearts of his guardians

and made a path for many Greyhounds to join his pack.

But the others that followed Sequoia,

were the special needs ones; older, unwanted, or "unadoptable".

It was the mission of this Sequoia to show the others the ropes

of having a forever home.

He did his job well.

The roots of a Sequoia are deep and everlasting.

The love of this boy is just that.

He will ever stand tall and strong in the hearts of his earthly mom and dad.

The first thing they will see when they, too ,

cross over the Bridge is that dark red fawn

Sequoia,

that gentle giant,

healthy again and eagerly awaiting their reunion.

From the Webmaster

Over the years I have had the privilege of working with Linda and most of the wonderful souls on this page.

Each of them hold a special place in my heart. They became part of me, sharing and teaching. When they pass

it leaves my heart empty for a time. Never to be replaced, but opening a space to be shared with the next little soul

Creator sends. The special ones that need you as much as you need them.

Never be empty friends - Learn, Share, send them home and open your heart to the next!

One of the many lessons I have learned from this Incredible woman.
